Mighty Quinn’s is a fast casual barbecue restaurant in NYC. They have several locations in and around the city, at least one internationally in Dubai, and have branched out to offer franchise opportunities. Their concept is based on one simple thing which is the obvious. Really amazing melt in your mouth meats. They serve a wide range of sausages, chicken, cornbread and Mac and cheese. But their smoked brisket is of course being their prime offering. It’s charred black on the outside with a delicious red smoke ring that gives way to juicy melt in your mouth beef. It’s delicious on it’s own or as a sandwich and it’s what’s really made their restaurants as successful as they are.
The meat is center but their restaurants also have a great interior design aesthetic. In the fast casual world design is often an afterthought but at Mighty Quinn’s it adds to the experience of the food. The walls and tables are made out of heavy thick sheets of dark wood with metal studs holding it together. The lighting is made of vintage bare bulbs that give off a subtle warm glow. It’s the sort of interior that feels like a lodge and is warm and inviting. Gesturing to the diner to sit and talk and have another beer after they’re done with their meal.
I’ve worked with them for many years and it’s been great to see them grow and be successful. Their brands aesthetic is dark and moody and I try to shoot photographs that focus on the meats. My lighting is dramatic and focused heavily to let it fall off and vignette the photographs. They also more than some of my other clients have really used the photographs that we’ve taken well. From their website to online ordering platforms, social media, and in store signage and large banners for their location at Citi Field. I always love seeing my clients get the most use out of the work that we create and the only bad photograph is the one that nobody ever sees.
