I specialize in food photography but I’m a man of many hats. One of those hats is product photography. I started my career as a professional photographer doing product photography for giant mega studios in Chicago. We shot mostly for big box retailers. Think Home Depot, Sears, Target, etc. These giant studios were sometimes the size of an entire city block and resembled more a warehouse production line than a creative studio. Often times as many as 20 photographers working side by side fighting over space and resources. We pumped out hundreds of thousands of photographs a year and anything you can possibly imagine. It was a great experience. It taught me how to photograph damn near anything and do it as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Product photography is something that I already do along with food photography. But I’m launching a new business venture specializing in Product Photography NYC. I want to continue shooting myself but to also take on more of a mentorship role and hire and train photographers to shoot for me and my clients. I have a strong desire to build something bigger than myself. A boat that can ferry a small group of talented people through sometimes troubled waters. I don’t know that I’ll ever build a studio as large as a city block but I’ll settle for a loft in Long Island City.
