Imagine yourself taking a stroll through SoHo in New York City. It’s a fall day and it’s a little chilly. The bite of the cold air pokes in your jacket sleeves and your spouses scarf. It’s warm in the sun but as you stroll through the quaint streets little pockets of shade make you want to find a little spot to eat. Sit down and escape from the nips of chilly breezes. You pass a pizza place… an all day cafe… but than there it is. Shuka. Blue French doors give way to an ornately decorated interior. Shuka is a mediterranean restaurant with geometric tiles and cute little sconces that give you feel of being someplace else. Step across the threshold and be transported far away to another place and time.
You take your seat at a blue mosaic tiled table. The menu lists labnes and babaganoushes and taramasalatas. We’re going to have to get at least one dip with the falafel. Or the fried halloumi? We gotta get the fried halloumi. And we can’t possibly leave here without the lamb kebab. On a menu with so many great choices the hardest part is just the need to make any choices at all. Please waitress just bring me one of everything. A giant sampler made of just a bite of every single item on the menu. What that’s off menu and we can’t order it? Technically it’s everything on the menu… The only possible and best solution to this conundrum is to come back often and be a regular. If you’re lucky and you do become a regular you’ll get a chance to meet chef Ayesha and have her welcome you into her home away from home. She’s the culinary genius behind all the delicious food that you’re about to eat.
