I’m a food Photographer by trade. At least that’s what I tell people and how I market my services as a professional photographer. But deep down I have many varied interests. One of those many interests is that I love shooting people and I Love shooting portraits. People are so much fun to shoot but because I’m a food photographer by trade I mostly just shoot portraits of chefs and restaurant owners. Not that I’m complaining mind you. I love the work that I do but every once in a while a client hires me to do a fun photoshoot like this one.
Jing Fong is a Dim Sum restaurant in NYC’s Chinatown. It is possibly the biggest restaurant that I have ever been to. It seats 800 people comfortably with room to spare. On a typical Saturday morning cute ladies are pushing dim sum carts full of goodies from table to table. And whole families from Grandma to the little babies nom nom nom on delicious dumplings.
But this project was something a little different. Rather than photograph their har gow and shu mai like I normally do their marketing manager Claudia had me photograph the clothing merch that they we’re selling to promote the restaurant and raise funds to help support the restaurant during pre-Covid times. Even before the pandemic began here in the US Chinatown businesses were hit hard by a dramatic fall off in customers coming in. Anytime there’s any way that my photography can help my friends support themselves through tough times and still reach their customers I’m happy to help.
